Foiled!

Since Halloween is Dave's favorite holiday, we make a big deal of it at our house. This year our halloween festivities included a pumpkin alley, 3 pumpkin carving and decorating get togethers, the daycare halloween parade, a halloween party hosted at our place and trick or treating. I pretty much let Dave plan it all out except for one thing - I refuse to pass out candy. I figure the kids get enough as it is and my RD credential insists that I do something healthy or non food related. I've done playdough, crayons, spider rings, tattoos to name a few...this year was mini decks of cards (like go fish, not face cards, and very cool in me and Ben's opinion:) Dave always gives me a hard time about it because "we're the lame house on the block" but I stand my ground. Yeah some of the older "kids" turn up their noses, but they're generally the ones that are too old to be trick or treating anyway.

Well this was the first year Ben was really into trick or treating. So I left Dave behind to host the party and hand out treats to the neighborhood kids in my absence. Ben enjoyed himself (made it a whole 2 streets) and after an hour or so we arrived back home to find my treat bucket just as full as when we left it. One of our friends had brought a whole slew of candy to share it the party and come to find out Dave had been giving that out instead of my well intentioned cards. He claims he took a poll "cards or candy?" and not one kid chose the cards. Harumph. Next year Dave's taking Ben trick or treating, and I'll stay home to pass out the treats.

Alex is really starting to move. When I put him down to sleep, I always place him the same way, with his head below the mobile. But most every time I go to get him, he's in a totally different position, often with his feet where his head had been. Yesterday I heard him in there screaming hysterically - not his usual post nap happy coos. I rushed in to investigate and found that he had somehow managed to do his 180 degree turn without kicking off his blanket. He was furious that a heavy blanket was now completely covering his face. I guess we'll be switching to light blankets until the crib break dancer settles down.

Ben's quote of the day: "I'm going to break through the TV and into that kid's house." or "Bye Mom. Have a good day. Don't crash and don't forget me!"

  1. I found this great pack of stickers and pencils and tattoos at the store and asked the kids if we should hand that out instead. Cooper's reply - No, all the kids will think our house sucks. I thought he could have said it differently but I get what you were going thru.

  2. Sham on him! I'm glad you pass out something other than candy. Luckily, Pearl only wanted to go to 6 houses and then was satisfied with her loot.
