Denver Zoo

I love free days. It's a perfect set-up for a family of 6 without a huge cash flow. Yesterday, I took the kids out of school a couple hours early to take advantage of a free day at the Denver Zoo. I wish Dave could have joined us, but he had already committed to playing golf for a friend's birthday. It was another gorgeous day and despite the crowds, we enjoyed ourselves.

Lego Leo. Something like 50,000 plus Legos used to build him. We were impressed (hence Alex's face?)

The only picture I managed to get with live animals. Ben was enamored by the reptiles, as usual. Emily loved everything (except the snakes) and Alex's favorite is still the elephants.

These sculptures were everywhere - made out of trash collected from beaches. Their intent was to teach about the danger trash poses to the animals in the ocean, but my kids were stuck on the concept of how you could create cool art out of trash. Message lost.

My attempt to capture the magic of the paper lanterns hanging from the trees. Zach was less than impressed and very much lamenting the loss of  his afternoon nap/.
