The gingerbread house

My first stay at home mom/Rifle, Colorado post! Plan on more consistent blogging from here on it. This week when we were grocery shopping, Ben spotted a gingerbread kit and begged to buy it.  I'm way too cheap to spend a whopping $10 on something like that so assured Ben that we would make our own. After breakfast today we cut out the patterns from cardboard, rolled out the dough (I was at least wise enough to speed up the process by buying refrigerated dough), baked our pieces and made the frosting.  Ben wanted to be involved at every step of the way so somehow with Ben's "help" and Alex having a needy day, it took until lunch to get it all prepped and until dinner to get it assembled (granted we're eating early this week since Dave is working nights, but still...an all day project!)

By the time the house was ready to be assembled, I was done with the project and out of patience, as you can see from the finished product.

You're supposed let the frosting dry for an hour before you put the roof on.  No way I was waiting an hour so my gingerbread house collapsed, several pieces broke and I rebuilt the house using the roof for the sides and decided it would be an open air sort of place.  Ben would have none of my grand idea to lay the pieces down and decorate them flat so this eyesore was our compromise:)  Next year I think I'll shell out the $10 for the kit.
