We spent the 1st half of May in Virginia. I so enjoyed visiting with family, soaking up history and relishing in Va's beauties. My parents live on this fantastic 28 acre piece of property, complete with civil war trenches, a 150+ year old barn, a fishing pond and walking trails my dad maintains through their forest. In the week we were there, we saw a family of deer, rabbits and a groundhog, all from the comfort of the living room. Things are so alive there, and I love the sound of the birds and bugs.
I had a great time introducing Ben to some of the pleasures of my childhood - the smell and taste of honeysuckle, the light a buttercup casts on your chin, chasing butterflies. Of course he also learned about chiggers, what poision ivy looks like and the right way to remove a tick:)
Alex enjoying real spring weather and the feel of green grass between his toes.
Ben and the "bouncy tree". He remembered this from our last trip, almost a year ago.
Family! Aunt Amy, Grandma, Mom, Aunt Maribeth and me - night out at Swift Creek Mill Playhouse.

I even think I made strides in convincing Dave that we should spend some portions of our lives in Virginia. It helped that the weather was pleasant and that I planned our excursions around history sights I knew he'd be impressed with.
