You did what?!

Dave and I have been talking about him quitting his job for awhile.  But it was always futuristic so gave me the false assurance that the work/daycare routine we've become accustomed to was safe.  Imagine my surprise last Thursday when he greeted me with the words "I quit my job today."  Note to any husbands reading this: rule #1 - if you quit your job, you should preface it with a little more background.  Rule #2  (and most important!!) - you shouldn't drop that kind of a bomb on your wife with your parents and sister in the room.

Though my initial reaction was not overwhelmingly positive, I think I've come to terms with it now.  Next week will be the boys last week in daycare, and then they'll stay home with Dave while he finishes school and starts up a small engine repair business.  Dave didn't have much of a choice but to quit, given the situation, and I think this will be the best thing for our family anyway.  It's not the loss of money I'm stressed about (after all his commission based job has been bringing in a pittance the last couple of months) -  It's taking my kids out of daycare.  Silly, I know. Sure I've felt my share of guilt for having them in daycare, but it's so much easier on me knowing I can go see them anytime I want.  Not to mention being able to run downstairs to feed Alex at his beck and call.  Ah well, that kind of a situation couldn't last forever, and Dave will take good care of them. And I have high expectation of his new role as Mr. Mom - a clean house, dinner waiting for me each night... here's hoping.

Wish us luck (and Dave patience) in our newest adventure!

  1. I am so sad :( What will Pearl do without her Benny-boy?

Three days before we got married, Jeff told me the exact same thing. Only it went something like this... I have good news and bad news. The good news is I quit my job but the bad news is I don't have a job now. And my mom was in the room and I had to contain my swearing. It was fun, I'll just leave it at that.

  3. Jenny - when will they learn when and how to break that sort of news? I asked Pearl today if she knew that this was Ben's last week and she looked so forlorn when she replied that yes, she did know. Oh well, maybe this will be good for their long-term relationship to give them some time to find themselves. Alycia - thanks for the encouragement! And good luck on your adventure!
