Little Munsters: California!

I have wonderful inlaws. They are both genuine and generous. For Christmas this year, they took us to Disneyland. When you have a family of 6, that is one expensive present. But going to Disneyland with your grandparents, aunt and uncle and cousin is priceless!

My Grandma passed away the week before our trip so I ended up flying out to Virginia last minute the Sunday-Wednesday before, and then having a quick one day turn around before we flew to Vegas Thursday morning. We found super cheap tickets into Vegas a couple of months ago, and figured a 4 hour drive was way better than a 16 hour one. So we booked a flight and rented a minivan.

Ben had come home sick from school on Tuesday afternoon and had a fever Wednesday. Thursday morning, he was looking rather green and started our flight by putting the barf bag to good use. Poor kid, that's a miserable way to travel. By the time we arrived at my sister's later that night he had perked up and despite a winter riddled with illness, we managed to escape sickness the rest of the trip.

We had planned on going to Legoland Friday (a Christmas present from us to the kids,) but it was monsoon raining so we delayed until Saturday. That ended up being the right choice, since the park closed just a couple of hours after it opened due to the weather. That gave me an extra day to spend with my sister (an added bonus since I had spent Sunday-Wednesday with her in Virginia.) Saturday things cleared up and we spent a great day at Legoland with cousin Jared. Legoland is a new favorite for one very important reason - there was hardly anyone there! I also loved the kid waiting area on some of the rides, where the kids could build stuff where the parents waited in line. Disney should take a page from their books.

We had some great downtime with my sister and her family and a wonderful couple of days with Dave's family at Disneyland. Disneyland never disappoints. Thank you Grandpa and Grandma Munson for a fantastic trip!
