Boys, Boys Everywhere

I don't get boys (or men for that matter.) They are just wired a little differently and the way they think baffles me. Perhaps God thought I needed more of a male perspective in my life because lately, I am feeling rather outnumbered.

First and foremost, there are a lot of males in my house. Between Dave, the boys and the dog, the count is 5 males, 2 females. As if that wasn't enough testosterone, I am the Webelos leader (10 year old Boy Scouts of America troop.) And because I'm a glutton for punishment, I also volunteered to coach Ben's basketball team this year - 11 8&9 year old boys! During the day I do my best to teach my boys the things they need to know to grow up to be good, kind, contributing members of society. And 3 nights a week and on the weekends, I do my best to tame the craziness of 8-10 year old boys in the hopes that scouting and basketball will teach them the values of respect and discipline.

The thing that has surprised me about boys is their hearts. My boys hate to see me cry or in pain. Just the other day I hit my head really hard on the corner of something. I cried out in pain and both my big boys hurried over to check on me. "Are you ok, Mom?" Emily, on the other hand, kept doing whatever she was doing and paid me no mind. I expect these boys have a few other things to teach me along the way in addition to tenderheartedness. I just hope I can learn it before I am asked to join the Masons or commissioned to work at an all boys' school.

Enjoying the great outdoors with 2 of my boys.

Silliness

Be still, my heart

  1. No, I think you have enough male-related activities. Perhaps you would like to teach 16-18 year old incarcerated males though.

    1. I think you're the only one in the family with that talent Mom! But if you can handle that kind of crazy, you can certainly help me mold my boys. Come live with me!
