Ah Virginia

We just got back from Virginia.  It'll be our last trip there for a couple of years, since my mom and dad are in Malaysia. I love Virginia. There's so much beauty, history and life there. I wonder if everyone feels the place they grew up will forever be home and where they belong.  I love the people, the way of life, the warm summer nights, the curtain of trees, the ocean, the history - even the bugs and the humidity.

It has been over 10 years since I lived there, yet I realize there are some things you never forget.  Like how to pick the perfect blackberry, the right way to remove a tick and how to get the last drop of nectar from honeysuckle.  I hope that my children will feel some connection to a place that is such a big part of who I am.

When we decided to move to Rifle, I felt like that meant I was giving up my chance to move to the southeast, at least for many years to come.  I like Rifle, but the high desert is very different from the forests of Virginia.  Ah Virginia, I hope that someday our paths will cross again.

  1. So what is the right way to remove a tick? I'm serious. I want to know.

    1. :) Use tweezers, close as possible to your skin and pull quickly and straight out. Some people say to use alcohol or a match to burn the tick out but I've always had better success with tweezers. Very enlightening, I'm sure.

  2. You've waxed poetic, my sweet niece. I hope Virginia gets to be your home again some day as well, but the secret, as you know, is to make yourself at home wherever you are...xoxox
